Upcoming Free Family Event: The Build Off

Child Care Action Council hosts an early learning family fun fair at Lacey Community Center on August 22, 2018. With only a few weeks until school starts up again for Thurston County kids, Child Care Action Council will hold an early learning fun fair to bring play and learning together; energizing kids for the upcoming school year. The Build Off will be held at Lacey Community Center on August 22, 10am – 1pm and brings together many early learning organizations in Thurston County who will hold fun educational activities for kids ages 3 to 12 years old.

Featured is the Build Off, where children and their families or friends build the tallest structure out of 500 wooden Keva planks with a chance to win great prizes including the grand prize of a night stay at Great Wolf Lodge. While children are not building, they can enjoy a wide range of early learning activities; fun games, arts & crafts, reading fun, and safety activities. Activity stations will be held inside and outside of the Lacey Community Center, with many fun activities specially designed for kids and their families.

This free community event was made possible by the event sponsors Molina Healthcare, WSECU, McSwain & Company, Port Blakely, Van Dorm Realty, Thurston Talk, Great Wolf Lodge, and Harbor Wholesale. Special activities will be provided by Safe Kids Thurston County, Raising A Reader, Kaleidoscope Play & Learn, Lacey Fire Department, Washington State University Master Gardeners and the Master Recycler Composters, South Sound Reading Foundation, Hands On Children’s Museum, Earth Friendly Products, Timberland Regional Library, South Puget Sound Habitat for Humanity, Washington State Parks Boating Program, and Block Fest. Visit the event site at http://www.ccacwa.org/build-challenge for a full list of activities.

The Build Off event and the Child Care Action Council’s many programs all help to accomplish the goals in their mission statement, which is to promote and nurture early learning communities where families and children thrive.
