Child Care Action Council's goal is to provide services and classes designed to support the important work you do with young children. The Child Care Action Council can help you work through the steps of starting a child care and becoming licensed. We offer the required classes, every month. We can help you with licensing information, USDA Food Programs, the Family Child Care Association for your area, and the local Director's Share. We can let you know the prices and numbers of providers in the area where you will being doing care and let you know when the next licensing orientation is for your area. CCAC, in conjunction with the The Washington State Child Care Resource & Referral Network (CCR&R Network), is piloting a new approach to professional development and training in your community. This pilot project is called the Early Childhood Academy (Academy). The overall goal of the Academy is to ensure you have access to high quality trainings in the eight identified core competency areas for early learning and afterschool professionals.
Eight Core Competencies
- Area A: Child Growth & Development: Understand how children acquire language and creative expression and develop physically, cognitively and socially.
- Area B: Curriculum & Learning Environment: Establish an environment to provide learning experiences meeting children’s needs, capabilities and interests.
- Area C: Ongoing Measurement of Child Progress: Observe and assess what children know and can do in order to provide curriculum meeting their developmental and learning needs.
- Area D: Families & Community Partnerships: Work collaboratively with families and agencies/organizations to meet children’s needs and to encourage the community’s involvement with early care and education.
- Area E: Health, Safety & Nutrition: Establish and maintain an environment ensuring children’s healthy development, safety and nourishment.
- Area F: Interactions:Establish supportive relationships with children and guide them as individuals and as part of a group.
- Area G: Program Planning & Development Establish, implement and evaluate an early care and education program.
- Area H: Professional Development & LeadershipServe children and families in a professional manner and participate in the community as a representative of early childhood care and education.

What is the Manditory Subsidy Billing Training?
Family Child Care providers and In Home Relative Providers (non-licensed, caring for relatives) who accept DSHS subsidies are required to completed a mandatory subsidy billing training by the end of June 2011. This is part of the collective bargaining agreement between DEL and the Union.
Do I have to take the Manditory Subsidy Billing Training?
This training began in mid 2010 - if you took the training prior to that, you will have to take it again, as there are new procedures and because this is part of the new collective bargaining agreement (the older training was not included in this agreement.

Tuition
Tuition must be paid in advance. If, one week prior, there are fewer than six paid registrations classes will be cancelled. Click here our online registration system where we accept electronic payments and credit cards.
Registration
For your convenience, CCAC offers four easy ways to register and pay:

• Download and complete the registration form mail it to CCAC with your check.
• Register & pay in person at CCAC’s Griffiin Lane office.
Please note: no payments will be received at class.
Late Arrival Policy
Arrive early to minimize disruptions, to respect the trainer’s plan for the class and to make sure certificates are issued fairly. Those arriving 15 minutes late will not receive certificates or refunds. In most cases, the door will be locked at this time.
No Child Care Available
Our classes are designed for adults, so please, for the comfort of everyone, do not bring children.
Class Cancellation & CCAC Office Closure
Class cancellations will be posted on the website. CCAC staff will call you to confirm the receipt of your mailed or phoned registration and inform you if a class is cancelled. 5 people must be paid and registered 48 in advance of the class or it will be canceled.
CCAC follows the office closure guidelines of North Thurston School District. If they announce school closure or delayed opening, CCAC offices will be closed or delay opening.
Refund Policy
For a full refund, you must call 786-8907 x100 and cancel your registration by 12:00 noon before a weekday evening class or by Friday 12:00 noon before a weekend class. When calling, leave your name, the class title and the class date. There are no refunds for cancellations after the noon deadline.
If a class is cancelled by CCAC or is rescheduled to a date you cannot attend, you will receive a full refund.
SSAEYC Scholarships
Scholarships, of up to $400 per year, are administered by the SSAEYC board. To qualify you must be a SSAEYC member, but you can apply for a partial scholarship for the membership fee. Your completed application must be received one month before the event. For an application, go to www.ssaeyc.org or call (360) 943.0921.

Professional Development Academy
STARS and CDA classes are offered throughout the community to support child care providers in their education requirements. These are offered in the 11 STARS areas and 8 CDA areas and cost $10 per hour. They can be from 2 hour workshops to all day trainings. For a current class list & online registration, click here.
Child Care Basics Classes
Within 6-months of being licensed or hired, providers must meet the STARS Basic Training Requirement. These 20-hour courses cover current information on guidance, growth, development, health and safety. The cost is $150. For information about STARS reimbursments go to: www.waeyc.org/STARS.htm. CCAC offers the following Child Care Basic Classes:
The 20 Hour Child Care Basics for Mixed Audiences
Designed for Center and Family Child Care, this class is offered quarterly on Saturdays. Watch the newsletter for dates. Click here to request more information.
CDA Cohort
The Child Development Associate is a nationally recognized credential which allows a candidate to supervise or direct a center, or be a lead teacher. Classes on Monday evenings and some Saturdays from September through May fulfill the 120 hour requirement. Group support, advising and a reasonable cost help candidates to prepare for this credential. Click here for a list of current CDA courses.
Online CDA
If you enjoy online training and prefer to study from home on your computer, CCAC’s Online CDA may be right for you. For only $249 you will take the 120-hours of coursework online. This program works best for those with experience in Early Childhood Education. Read and listen to the content, take quizzes and print your own certificates. Teaching Adults Classes
Yearly 8 hour training offered to become a qualified CCAC and STARS trainer. Ongoing Trainers Updates offer professional networking and growth opportunities to trainers.
In-Service Training
CCAC Trainer comes to your center to offer STARS classes designed for your staff. Contact Sheryl at 360.786.8907 x104 or sheryl@ccacwa.org to request a topic from our training calendars or to discuss other potential topics. These are designed to meet the needs of your center. Not only is it convenient, but when you host a class for 10 or more, two of your staff are trained free!
Provider Consultation
CCAC offers free consultation on many topics including child guidance, circle time, parent communication, working with children’s special needs and administration. Child Care Inclusion
Welcoming children with disabilities into child care settings, includes monthly Cohort meetings and STARS trainings as well as consultation on providing care for children with special needs. Click here for more information about this program.
