CCAC will operate two early learning centers in partnership with Capital Region Educational Service District 113's Sound to Harbor Early Learning Programs.

July 17, 2019 - Child Care Action Council announced today that it will partner with Capital Region Educational Service District 113’s Sound to Harbor Early Learning Programs to operate the Shelton Head Start center. This new partnership will ensure that low-income families will continue to have access to high-quality, no-cost preschool in the community. Shelton Head Start will be renamed Shelton Early Learning Center and will continue to support 90 eligible, low-income children and their families. Child Care Action Council has also partnered with Sound to Harbor to operate a second learning site in Thurston County, which serves 72 children. Beth Schilling will serve as the administrator at both sites.

Schilling has decades of experience as a teacher, trainer, and director in a variety of early learning settings. During this transition, the current staff at each site will be interviewed to fill the available positions before an open, competitive hiring process is conducted.

“A high-quality pre-school program provides one of the best opportunities to prepare children for school and life. These programs fit perfectly with the mission of Child Care Action Council,” said Gary Burris, Executive Director of Child Care Action Council. “For over a decade we have coached, trained, and mentored early learning professionals on how to provide high quality early learning in classrooms. We are excited to partner with Sound to Harbor and know it will make a huge difference in the lives of children and their families.”

The Shelton Early Learning Center serves children who have turned 3 years old by August 31 and priority placement is given to 4-year-olds. Find out if your family qualifies by filling out a pre-enrollment form in English or Spanish: https://soundtoharbor.com/enrollment.
